Beginning in London in the late 1950’s, Alan Wallwork became one of a few ‘workshop’ potters that made a living from the craft. Preferring non-repetitive work, using hand-building and wheel-thrown processes, Alan has produced an extensive range of functional sculptural forms and glazed tiles. Working mostly in stoneware and porcelain with great variety in surface treatments, and techniques to produce an array of textures, colours and time worn effects. Alan continues to enjoy experimentation with materials and firings, whilst applying imagination to form and visual impact. In an age of industrialised processes, his approach in using core skills and techniques for production has been a great contribution to promoting the craft. This website aims to provide an insight into his career and to showcase the work produced at his studios.
